House & Mouth Talk
We looked at a few more houses yesterday. 2 were very nice. Well, wait... 3 were very nice, but the 3rd one is way out of our league - it was like 1800 square feet and just beautiful. I have no idea why they would list it at $179,900.00... they're likely going to get $250,000.00 to $300,000.00 for it/ Crazy. Maybe in 20+ yeaqrs or so we can live in a house like that! When the kids are grown and moved away!!! It was a nice slab home with a baeufful yard, we both thought it would be lovely to get married there! But yeah, way more than we could afford. Only 2 bedrooms too... an extra one that could be a den or bedroom too, but just not a starter family home. But it was so gorgeous... it reeked of money! The master bedroom was so huge & beautiful and the ensuite with the jacuzzi tub was just unbeleivable. Luxury. Not for us...

Anyway, the other two were quite nice, but had their drawbacks. One of them was very near Kingston Row, which is a high priced neighbourhood, so that would affect the price a lot. Also, it was nowhere near a bus route for me. Ther other was really nice, but the basement neded a lot of work & was deep into St. Vital, quite far south... it would just be one bus for me to wirk, but a very long one. The yard was big enough for the pool I suppose, but no fire pit then, and faced east so not much for sun in the afternoon. The bedrooms were kind of small too.

But the one on Lindsay (the link from yesterday's entry) has a big enough yard for an eating area, a fire area (likely we'd buy a portable pit thing this time) and there is actually a circle area where an above ground pool used to be, filled with sand or quarter down, all ready for our pool. I think it was facing east (the back) as well, but looked like where the pool was there was plenty of sun still. The back is all fenced in and priate too. There was a garage, I forget now if it was double or single... had a bit of water on the floor, but nothing too much to worry about. And parking for one or two vehicles in back. The front has a huge yard too, and no neighbours across from it. (Than you have more parking in front since you only have the one side of homes with vehicles, not two.) A bit of a field, and then a train track. There are two buildings close by, it looks like this might be where they stop to leave trains or service the, but not really moving trains? I am not sure but Hank says probably not. We are actually not bothered by that. The neighbourhood is very nice. It is really close to a bus stop for me, a good bus route to work & many other places. There is no dining room per sé, but the eat in kithcen is quite large, and should we have a large enough dinner (say Xmas or something) we could always improvise and make it in the living room or the basement. There is lots of cupboard space & enough counter space, with a double sink over looking the back yard (that is a bonus for me). The master bedroom is a good size with good closet space. The rest of the house has a good amount of storage too. The two other bedrooms on the main floor are not huge, but decent enough for spares, offices or children. The upstairs batch is a niced 4 peice. The basement is very nice. a big rec room with seperate laundry room & a 3 peice bathroom (with shower). The in the back is another room, could be another bedroom, and another unfinished room, I think it just had furnace, hot water tank etc. It also has central air conditioning & I think an alarm... I forget, but if it doesn't we would probably get one...

I could really picture us there. I wish I wasn't sitting here tyoing all about it, it is making me dream things mkore and I don't want to get llet down like I did with the other one. Oh yeah, I think posession on this one was mid-June, so like perfect. Man... this is so hard! Oh well... we're taking a break from all of this... the realtor is having a keg party tonight for his birthday & we're invited! Too bad I have to work tomorrow... :-( Oh well. $$$

Anyway, offers for that one are this Sunday. We might take his parents there on Saturday to have a last look with us b efore offering. Them if we don't get it, the other two are taking offers Monday & Tuesday, so we might give them a shot, I don't know... and there'll be plenty more to see soon.

About 6.5 years ago, just before I moved to Winnipeg from Edmonton I had my teeth all done by the dentist I have had for(like) ever and wanted to get all I could get done since I wasn't sure when I would have coverage again. That dentist has always been good to our family and would sometimes do extra stuff and charge us for something else so that it would be covered under our insurance benefits. Well when I went I just let him do whatever he wanted to do (I was so hungover, it was a going away party for me the night before and I pretty much slept through the whole thing!) and didn't even really know what he was doing. Hours later my teeth looked much whiter and shaped even nicer than they were (the shape of my teeth isn't too bad as is, but he really improved them.). He said it was binding that he did. I didn't know what that was, but he said he charged it as fillings so it was covered & I thought I was just fine with that. Well, since then my teeth have become stained quite yellow again. While going through my last dentist appointments (cleaning etc.) I asked the hygenist about whitening. She told me about products to use or the professional way that they do (molding trays for your mouth then send you home with a product you put in them daily for about $300). I thought that might be worth it. But then she told me I have this bonding and that whitening products (in store or professional) would not work on those. Well that's on my four fron top teeth, the most important one, so that would kind of defeat the purpose. She said that maybe this dentist could re-do the bonding and charge them as fillings. (I never told her about my old dentist doing that, she offered it.) So she booked me in for a consultation with the doctor.

So I went to the dentist on Wednesday. He told me that it wouldn't be wrong, fraudulent or underhanded at all to call it a filling, as it is the same thing, the same material is used. So, yes, something like that could be done. However, it appeared to him I had what is called porcelain veneers, which is quite different from bonding/filling, and a lot more expensive. It would not be covered and would cost about $300-$400 per tooth! EEKS! He said my dentist did a very good job & I got one heck of a deal, and he didn't want to mess with that. So I guess I am SOL. I asked about the whitening mouthwash, toothpaste & brush I am using & he said it might help a little & certainly to continue trying to use it, but probably wouldn't have a signifigant change. So that sucks... I guess I am stuck withthese yellow buggers unles I win the lotto!!!

I just Googled it though & one thing said that porcelain veneers are virtually stain resistant, so I am not sure this is the case. I am going to look more into this, perhaps a second opinion...

Anyway, I guess I am boring you with all of this house & mouth talk so I'll go for now. Hope you all have a nice weekend. It is supposed to be +15-17 or so this weekend here... spring has sprung! YAY! :-)

Oh, here's some good news to leave you with - Hank won $1,000.00 the other night on the VLTs!

[EDIT]

I just found more on the house if you want to see.

Here's a slideshow with more pics.

And something else I found from the seller here.
