New Van
We did it! We are the proud new owners of a 2000 Mazda MPV!!! After looking all week on the net at vehicles this was still the best one, or so it seems to me. This is the one we looked at a week ago. Hank has trouble taking big steps like this & making big purchases, but I finally convinced him it was time to bite the bullet, spend a few extra bucks & get something we will have for a long time. So yesterday I checked into a whole lot about the vehicle to support how good it was & worth the money & then he agreed. Brand new, in 2000, it looks like these were about $28-29,000.00. A 2005 I saw was being sold for $17,000.00. The dealer was asking $7,800.00. The warranty was $500.00 so would have been $8,300.00. I talked him down to $8,000.00 even including the warranty. Then GST & PST applied, so it was total $9,040.00. It all looks good, but we tested out the CD Player (6 disc changer) and it didn't seem to be working. My discs might have been dirty or scratched, I know they were finicky in Jim's van this weekend, or maybe it needs cleaning. Either way, it would only cost a little bit to get it fixed or replaced sometime in the future, no big deal. The radio works. Here's some more info on it, and then a picture:

The warranty was one we chose of a few. This one was good for 24 months or 24,000 kms, whichever came first, with the maximum amount payable per claim of $1,500.00 with a $100 deductible. You can make as many claims in that time though as you need, up to the amount of the vehicle's purchase price. This is for engine/motor, transmission, gaskets & seals... ah, I don't know what I am talking about - a bunch of other car stuff that I don't understand! But Hank thought it was good anyway :)
So, what do you think? Pretty nice ride?
I am pretty excited, as this is my first vehicle. It is owned under both of our names and paid for equally by us. (Well, Hank is paying the first $5,000.00 and I will be paying his Mom back for the remainder when I sell the house.) I told him if by the time we sell the house, if he isn't as happy with it as I am, I will buy him out & it will be mine & he can get his own vehicle! But I am betting this one will be more his and I'll get sonething smaller eventually, we'll just share them both. So now I am excited to finally take lessons & learn to drive. Now that we have something that is good enough to drive! Woohoo! I'm gonna be a driver! A van driver! An MPV driver! Also, Hank has only had hand-me-down vehicles or really low priced rebuilds or something, he should be excited to buy a newer better vehicle.
I think I want to name it... MPV... what should that stand for? Any suggestions? Max Power Van? (the name you would love to touch...) Mary Poppins Van?!? LOL - NOT! Miss Priss? Haha, no.
I want to keep it all nice & clean too and can't wait to make it feel like our own. Maybe a personalized plate... ;) I have always (well, in the last 3 years or so) wanted WESAGRL but that will have to go only on MY own vehicle.
We're going house hunting again tonight with our realtor. Here's hoping... Imagine, we buy a house & a car all in one week!
So the Easter weekend was really nice. Having us all together was really great. We visited Daddy II in the hospital on Friday (got there too late on Thursday) and then on Saturday he came home for a few hours to join us for dinner & then went back. He came home for a little bit on Sunday morning as well. He looks a bunch better than when I was last there, but that couldn't take much, he looked pretty bad last time... like death to be honest. He is still very yellow looking & his eyes are quite red, but he is improving. He doesn't get around much or well, mostly in a wheelchair and still gets very tired & sleeps a lot. His voice is so raspy from having all those tubes down it, hearing him speak is like a very old man. He still has his goofy sense of humour though, and it is good to see that Jim is still inside that body.
At Easter dinner I asked Tyler to say Grace for us. He was playing kind of shy, but normally would do it well, so he gave it a quiet try anyway. He said, "Thank you for this food..." and then paused and turned to his Dad & softly said, "And hope Jim gets better." Which we all heard. I welled up with tears and when I looked at Mom & Grace noticed they had too. Then Jim said, "Yeah, I hope the Oilers get better!" Which made us all laugh, and cry a little more.
Tyler & Princess & I coloured Easter eggs too. That was fun. The guys helped make paper eggs with colours & stickers on them & then when I got down from my shower I found that they made one for a few of us with some weird & rude but fun messages on them, attached to headbands for us to wear. Mine said "Karen is a slut. Happy Easter." We all knw I am not one, it was just silliness, so I wasn't offended, i thought it was funny, so I wore it. P-Dog's said, "Scott smells of death" Larry's said he smelled like feces. So we thought we should make one for everyone. The kids of course had cute nice things on them... but they can't read yet, so whatever ;) Mom's was the funniest - apparantly her Mom recently said to her, "How could you let yourself go like that?!?" (How rude, 'eh?!?) But we thought we'd make a joke of it & it said "Carol has let herself go." Jim's said he liked little boys. Grace likes it doggy-style. Lauren smells like pee. Sarah is an angry bitch... haha... so we all wore them at dinner... how festive! Haha... good times... maybe I'll get on it & post some pictures...
Brooke is as cute as can be and so smart - what a little preformer. Man, I love those kids!
Oh yeah, and Dusty is going to be okay. We brought him home from the vet before we left & they think it was just a real bad hairball that he couldn't pass so he couldn't eat & was throwing up. After being treated at the vet he pooped out a shit full of fur. They say he might have a really sensitive stomach so put him on this special diet for a week and gave us some medication to feed him once a week to help him. We might have to chabnge his diet altogether for kitties like him, so hopefully Cupid will adapt & not mind eating whatever we have to give him. She's usually not picky, so should be okay, but she doesn't like the soft food we'd been giveing them for Dusty this week, not really eating it & we've caught her resporting to eating the dog food a little! Oh well, couldn't hurt her too much.
Well, I think that's all I have to say for now... I have work I should be doing.. and other blogs to catch up on!
Ciao for now!
