Poor Frankie
This entry might gross some people out... so just to forward the waek stomached... there is a lot of talk about poop... not human poop though... And if you haven't read the previous entry, you should do that first or this one might not make all that much sense. I don't think it was the food he ate, since it's taken so long to get out of his system... but he was over at C&DFour's with us last Friday & playing with their dog, Bubby, who had the runs for a few days earlier that week, so maybe he caught a bug from him. Tuesday when we got home he had pooped in his kennel again & still was going out a lot with the runs. We gave him that medicine & it seemed to help, but not much, not 100%... but even with humans, when we are sick, we take something to ease it, but there's never a cure to make it immediately go away. We also have been giving him this pedialyte or something like that to help him rehydrate & I cooked him some plain rice & ground beef like the vet suggested & he ate that but it came running out soon after. Otherwise he isn't eating much & he hates all the medcine, it is quite tough giving him the liquid. Anyway, he was pretty much the same on Wednesday, but not as bad, seemed to be improving slowly, and then yesterday we got home & there was no poop - YAY! I was so happy & thought he must be getting better. He ate his normal food, more like chowed down & drank a bunch of water so thought this must be a good sign. He had some pretty raunchy gas though! PHEWWWY! We took him out to C&DFour's again after work and soon after he got there he made a mess. It was a lot thicker this time, but not yet a solid log. He was running & playing like nothing happened, but Hank found some more downstairs. He said there was blood in it. That freaked us out. Hank called the vet today & I guess the blood part is normal because he's had the diarrhea for so long that now that he had an almost solid poop he probably tore his anus a little. Poor guy! The bad gas is because he's not eating the same now either. They said not to rush to bring him in, that whatever he's got seems to be running it's course & seems to be on it's way out, but if it's still bad in a couple days to get back to them. It's good to know ur vet isn't just a money hungry bastard telling us to rush in everytime & gives us sound advice first. I'm also relieved it doesn't sound like anything too serious though... dogs get flus & bugs etc. too sometimes. I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed & hope & pray that is all it is, 'cause we're not 'in the clear' yet. Send your Frankie love here! ;)
